Description
Was the hit-and-run death of a talented young scientist really just an accident?
The head of the National Intelligence Agency doesn't think so and sends his best operative, Bianca Yeats, to investigate.
Piecing together fragments of the scientist's lab notes, information coerced from his eco-militant girlfriend, and medical reports of an unusual illness killing prostitutes in South America, Bianca discovers that the dead man was a central player in a worldwide drama of environmental politics and biological warfare. He was hired to create a virus -- but for whom and to what end?
Along the way, Bianca enlists the help of a former colleague of the dead scientist, a biological weapons expert at the World Health Organization, and a jilted ex-lover from her CIA days.
But can Bianca stop the person behind the plot in time? If not, she and everyone else will become a victim of the virus she set out to destroy.
Gregg Caporaso is a physician and cell biologist from New York. Drawing upon his background in neurological and infectious diseases, and personal experience engineering viruses in the laboratory, he has written a compelling and frightfully plausible account of the ease with which someone could manufacture and disseminate a biological weapon globally.
