Having spent many of his boyhood holidays there, Inspector Blake Hartley is already acquainted with 'The Grange', a large house on the outskirts of the Yorkshire town of Keighlworth. Past meets with present when he and Sergeant Khan are called to The Grange to investigate the brutal murder of the wealthy reclusive owner. There is no obvious motive and, when it becomes apparent some of the suspects are characters he knew as a boy, the case presents Hartley with some interesting challenges.
