Description
His wife was murdered. He is distracted at work. His partner points out that distraction at work is dangerous for a lieutenant on the New York City Police Force.
His captain tells him to take some time off, or he will be suspended.
Reluctantly Derrick Dreadlow heads to Oahu for eight weeks.
As he tried to clear his head, he asks himself many questions. Who was his wife? She wasn't some random killing. What was she involved in? She had to be more than just some accountant at a large firm. Who killed her? And most disturbing to him... Why didn't he see it?
Derrick packs a bag and gets on a flight to Hawaii. He hadn't been there since his honeymoon years ago with his ex-wife. When they divorced, she had left him a condo on Oahu. She said someday he would need it to find himself.
After only a couple of days, he is going stir crazy. He meets a couple of young people who work for the Honolulu Police Department. To give himself something to do, he offers to help them on a case.
Pele, who just made detective, asks her captain to let Derrick work on a case that no one else wants. Her captain interviews him and makes him a consultant.
As Derrick tries to relax and find his coplyness again, he makes new friends, finds a new chance at love, and decides this is the place to begin a new life. Plus, it doesn't get below freezing or snow. It is, after all, Paradise.
However, moving to paradise does not stop whatever his wife was involved in from following him. Nor can he escape the shadows of his own past.
