Description
Against their father's loud protests, Will Stillman and his brother left the family's Virginia farm to join the Confederate Army. Both young men had been caught up in the excitement of the war and feelings of patriotism that demanded they help the Southern Cause. As they headed off in different directions, they could not have imagined the hardship, confusion, and heartache that lay ahead. Will, considering himself to be a true patriot with serious convictions, would find those convictions challenged as he searched for a meaning in the madness of war around him. His thoughts often turned to Molly, the girl he left behind; only Molly was more interested in his brother Frank. Later, being prosecuted for treason, he knew that this fate was not the worst this war had brought him. As he awaited his sentencing, he found himself tormented with memories, both good and bad, and wondered if any goodness could ever be in his life again.
