In the last months before the fall of Berlin in 1945 two maimed veterans of Stalingrad, Oskar and Willi, now detectives in the Kriminalpolitzei hunt for a crazed serial murderer of women on the S-Bahn. The pressure is on them to catch the killer before more are murdered while at the same time investigate the theft of Wehrmacht ration packs from a warehouse. Their investigation into the murders is suddenly opposed by their boss and the Gestapo - why? Is the murderer somehow connected to the Nazi Party? Ignoring the pressure placed on them the detectives press on with both investigations regardless of the danger this places them in from those higher up. In a strange twist both crimes seem to be connected. In the last days before the Russian assault on the city they solve both crimes but at a cost to both them and those who depend on them.
