An orphan planet holds no standard orbit around a celestial body. It has no sun, no star to call its own, and exists primarily by floating between gravitational pulls. When one is discovered that not only holds no motion in space, but also no rotation, an expedition is mounted. And lost.

Captain Brynn Herris of the Colonial Navy has been ordered to take her ship, the Archangel, out to this planet to rescue the expedition.
