Description

In 1942 Adolf Hitler had personally intervened and chosen Professor Wilhelm Meyer to continue where the SS had failed catastrophically. Meyer's instructions were simple. He and his colleague Dr Karl Roth were to take control of the project and to drive the research into the manipulating and controlling of the visible spectrum as hard and fast as possible with the sole intention of creating a device that could render objects invisible. 1943 and the war was already lost for the Nazi's. The RAF and the US Army Air Corps were systematically destroying Germany's manufacturing capacity and its cities by day and by night, and an increasingly deranged Hitler was demanding bigger and more destructive weapons. After only a modicum of success Meyer and Roth were called upon to examine and investigate what Roth thought would turn out to be an advanced enemy aircraft that had crashed in a mountain forest, after close examination it could turn out to be the war winning weapon that Hitler was demanding. After being forcibly removed from their primary project to work on this more immediate project by the SS under Himmler's orders, Meyer and Roth are set to work alongside other scientific luminaries under the control of a fanatical SS Colonel. Roth discovers that this SS colonel is researching into developing far more repulsive weapons, by the use of extremely barbaric and inhuman methods. After a breakthrough of monumental proportions Roth is chosen to become a reluctant participant in what is required to secure the war winning weapons that Hitler demands. Now years into the future where National Socialism had triumphed, the world had gone beyond the model state of Nazi ideology dreamed up by Hitler and his supporters, it has become a world of fear and uncertainty, and where a long and happy life was not guaranteed even for the loyal Nazi's. The one breakthrough that Meyer and Roth had achieved while working on the invisibility project would turn out to be, with guidance from another party, the cornerstone in their quest to change the events that they help perpetrate all those years ago, that had subsequently altered the course of the war and sent the world down an irreversible path. That breakthrough was time travel. With age against him Roth needs the help of his son Max and his wife Marie. Max Ritter is a mathematician, scientist and a vintage car enthusiast, and is Roth's son by adoption. Max's parents had worked for Roth before falling foul of the state and bringing a death sentence on their heads. So they took the decision to flee while working for Roth to protect themselves and Max. Max had always looked to Roth as his real father, and always called him Uncle, but during a security check on Marie that went too far Max finds himself needing to ask questions of his Uncle and doing so would change his world. Max learns the truth about the past, his parents and his Uncles research. Some of the answers push their relationship to the limit and Max starts a chain of events that he cannot escape from. Unknown to Max and Marie they become targets of the state. Roth with the help of his three old mentors must now convince them that they are the only ones capable of changing the events of the past. Max and Marie learn the real truth about the war, the true history of the past and the dangers of going back to change events before it's too late. They accept the risks knowing it's a one way trip. The chain of events that Max started catch up with them, now being hunted by the state, and running for their lives they have no option. They are given a crash course in tradecraft about living in 1943 and how to survive. They have to make their way across a war ravaged Germany, fighting the SS and the Gestapo along the way to contact the British and convince them they are neither delusional nor spies, and tell them the truth about what awaits the world if they are not allowed to act, and then Max must face his greatest challenge.
