SOME FIRES JUST WON'T GO OUT! AN ADVENTURE WITH AN EX...

"There's a genuine ghost story here, but it's the human story that sets off shivers." -San Francisco Chronicle

Cajun musician A.P. (Adrien) Savoie gets a second chance when the love of his life, his ex-wife Michelle, shows up in New Orleans unexpectedly, mostly to give him hell -- about failing to send their visiting son Cam back home. It's not long before Michelle once again falls under the dazzling spell of New Orleans and its music, and gradually, just little bit at a time... the charismatic Adrien himself. Can they make a new beginning?

Adrien's mother Delphine ("Feen"), having psychic visions of her son's impending death, throws a few surprises into the mix when she kidnaps Cam, leading both Adrien and Michelle on a wild ride through the bayou. All Michelle wants is to get Cam and go home to New York. Adrien doesn't dare to hope. And Feen just wants to keep her son alive.

As a bonus, what starts out as a romance dips happily into action-adventure territory for awhile, with plenty of page-turning suspense. And the best part? It's a beautifully written novel; in fact, the metaphysical elements may remind discerning readers of Alice Hoffman's work.

Who will like it? First of all, fans of literary fiction, especially literary romances--and Alice Hoffman! Second, anybody who loves New Orleans or enjoys a delicious love story; also romance novel readers who don't require so much heavy breathing you need a resuscitator, (especially those who like second-chance stories). We're not going to lie: this is no formula romance. But it's such a good love story it'll give you goose bumps.

What reviewers said about CAJUN SPIRIT:

"A delectable spooker spiced with romance... " -Publishers Weekly

"... a whopper of a ghost story... both savvy and chilling." -- Booklist

"What lifts Harper's work above the ordinary ghostly romance, beyond its fine use of setting, is the intensity of these characters, their struggles to move on, to make new lives, all the while feeling the pull of the past, the longing to redeem the lost moment." -- The Times-Picayune

"Reminiscent of an episode from The Twilight Zone, this stylishly written novel uses in-depth characterizations and convincing detail to build in credibility before serving up a whopper of a ghost story. Harper makes good use of her atmospheric setting in a story that is both savvy and chilling." -Booklist
