Description
Eight high school students, four chaperones, and two children are in a bus traveling on coastal route 101 in southern Oregon when the fault in the Cascadia Subduction Zone beneath the Pacific Ocean ruptures. The megathrust earthquake and savage tsunami that follow comprise the worst natural disaster to ever hit the United States.
When large portions of the 101 crash down to the coastline below, the travelers find themselves stranded in a rest area high above the Pacific Ocean. With no means of communication and without enough food or water to enable them to wait for rescue, the four chaperones divide the group into teams, each of which will look for help in a different direction and send rescuers for the others.
No one is prepared for the suffering, death, and destruction that the apocalyptic event leaves behind. As conditions deteriorate and the search for help becomes desperate, the very best and very worst in human nature emerge from within each of the teams.
The Trip to Raptor Bluff is a fictional depiction of what could happen to the Pacific Northwest if the Cascadia Fault does indeed suffer a total rupture. It also attempts to portray the desperate conditions of those who must deal directly with the aftermath.
