Mary is a young attractive woman who is using her skill as a pilot to deliver aircraft to the frontline in World War Two. She meets and falls in love with a young man called Lucas who is handsome, intelligent and also a Spitfire pilot. This is wartime and everything happens so quickly, circumstances separating them indefinitely when both are involved in separate aircraft crashes. Mary is left with partial amnesia, her love for the young pilot lost with other memories leading up to the crash. Mary is a modern woman, confident, ambitious and aware of her good looks and the effect they have on the opposite sex. The accident not only affects her memory but she discovers she also has a fear of piloting an aircraft again. Unable to continue with her job she is snapped up by the S.O.E. who have plans for her. Her high IQ and her fluency in French and German impressive credentials for the mission they have in mind. Mary enters a world of secrecy and deception culminating in her joining a resistance cell in occupied France.The French resistance fighters she joins have been decimated by the SS, making it a challenge for a young woman to win their respect and trust. But they are patriotic and brave and a bond is soon formed between them as they unite to take on the dreaded SS and the barbaric officer who leads them. During Mary's mission to eliminate top Nazi officers, she is thrown by chance into contact with the man she loved but has forgotten. He is highly aware that they are in occupied France and that the woman he loves appears to have a new French identity and seems totally unaware of their previous relationship, so decides to tread carefully and not push the situation. Together, they reek havoc in an attempt to carry out her mission along with the brave people of occupied France. A series of encounters and close shaves finally leaves them alone together with only the English Channel separating them from home. Desperate to know how Mary had swapped her life for this highly dangerous new existence, once again Lucas has to put his questions on hold as together they confront the German army, the weather and the cruel sea as they make their run for home. Time and again Mary is knocked down but defiant as ever she always gets back up, nothing is going to stop her from achieving her goals but will one of these goals be Lucas?
