Description
Loyalty, friendship and love are tested to their limits during two devastating wars
London, 1917... James Buckingham, a young army officer, is recuperating after being severely wounded at the Battle of Delville Wood. While recovering, he meets a beautiful music hall singer called Daisy Skellern, and quickly falls in love with her.
After leaving hospital, Buckingham is asked to advise the new Minister of Munitions, Winston Churchill, about the threat of a giant new German bomber. A secret informer has leaked plans of the Gotha bomber to the British, and Buckingham wonders if the informer could be a friend of his from pre-war days, Max Grek.
Yet things soon go badly wrong, and Buckingham begins to suspect that there might be a traitor in the very heart of the Whitehall establishment. When people start to die, Buckingham is accused of murder and must go on the run.
December 1940... Twenty-three years later, in the height of the Blitz, a young WAAF officer, Peggy Lending, finds herself trapped in the City of London, buried in an underground cellar with an enigmatic stranger called Max Grek...
Max Grek seems to be the common connection between James and Peggy's stories. Yet the real link between their stories turns out to be an even more mysterious connection than anyone could ever imagine...
