Description
What if aliens threw an invasion and nobody came?
Sally Morgan is about to find out as she gets swept up in a Brazilian government coup that causes numerous Brazilian generals to become more focused on gaining political advantage than stopping alien monsters from harvesting the Amazon rainforest. Only a handful of dedicated Brazilian soldiers and a small contingent of United States Marines are left to hold back the growing alien tide... and they are a long way from home at the end of a tenuous supply line.
After the initial alien landing in middle of Brazil, the rest of the world readjusted to the loss of Earth's orbital infrastructure and then generally lost interest in the aliens who, after all, were very far away in the middle of the Amazon Basin. Some groups even begin to deny their existence, claiming it was all a massive hoax. Sporadic violence erupts worldwide, societal structures shake, and chaos festers as people, governments, and religions struggle to accommodate the alien's arrival with their various belief systems. This is not going well.
Meanwhile, Sally's brother David is trapped in a nightmare prison deep within the towering alien White Mountains with four other survivors. Their only chance of escape is up and along a massive conveyor belt that carried them into the huge chamber after they were captured. The first hurdle is reaching the opening as it is centered above a hundred-foot-wide, two-hundred-foot-deep vat of churning death. And if they figure out how to do that, they then have to travel upstream on a moving surface for who knew how far? And after that... ? Things would get really hard.
