FBI Special Agent John Treehorn arrives in an isolated oil boomtown after a wolf uncovers a woman's frozen hand grasping an FBI badge and a final request, "Call FBI Agent John Treehorn". He doesn't know the victim or why she summoned him, but he answers her call.
