Description
North Carolina, Year 2012 - A young woman wakes up in the middle of a desert with no recollection of her past. Her ailment, retrograde amnesia. Her surrounding inspires fear and confusion; she gathers all the strength in her already tired legs and walks East, towards the rising sun, hoping to find some sort of relief to her plight. After a day's walk, the young woman comes across a creepy bar on the outskirts of the desert. She enters the bar and makes the acquaintance of Delilah Walters, the bar owner. Delilah Walters appears sympathetic to the young woman's situation. She takes the young woman in, offers her a job and names her Hope. Only days later, Hope finds herself regretting ever crossing the path of Delilah Walters. She is thrown into a whirlwind of unknowns as the community as a whole conspires to tear her down. As friends turn to foes and love betrays her innocence, Hope has no choice but to push through the challenges that pave the lonesome road to self-actualization. Every decision she makes will be paramount to her survival in this patriarchal web of sinistrous shortcomings. This poetically-inclined psychological rollercoaster captures the essence of humanity -- the very idea of resilience. It tells a heartbreakingly revolting story of strength and resilience. It tells the story of a freedom not given but earned through an undying drive to persevere. Wiss Auguste demonstrates tact and courage as he tackles the sensitive topics that other contemporary male authors typically shy away from. The author's voice is raw and refreshing; it offers a different outlook on a sad reality that modern literature tries to sugarcoat and/or silence. In a very unique style, The Hope series (The Illusions of Hope and The Valley of Orchids) tells the riveting success story of a young woman fated to fail.
