Description
Almost all Woodchucks are emotionally unstable and loath living like animals in damp, smelly holes in the ground. One day Carl's best buddy, Eugene's, erratic emotional pendulum took a swing to the dark side, and he decided to end his life, which has been the woodchuck way since the beginning of time.* In this instance he chose to lay down in the road and wait for a car to dispatch him to "A Better Place"**. Soon the whole clan wants to join in.In this dark, humorous and satirical story, Carl is forced to make promises which he has no idea of how to keep. A tip from an owl sends him, and inadvertently Eugene, on a quest to find a wise, old woodchuck who lives in a house built by the men who celebrate him for his wisdom. On their quest, they encounter terrifying creatures and situations that would be their undoing were it not for a great deal of luck and the help of a mythic warrior clan The Woodland Squirrels, a few alcoholic varmints, a classically trained thespian raven, a fascist woodchuck resistance army and others.*Carl was certain that a million years ago there was some sort of proto-woodchuck knuckle-walking around a swamp, looking for a nice set of alligator jaws to snuggle into.** Their theory being that, wherever it was, it had to be better than here.
