Louise Rickshaw; good with numbers, bad with men, and look-alike to a dead girl. Spring 1979 in Gully, Georgia, Louise's life is changed when a corpse is placed on a swing set just around the corner from her childhood home. In addition to hiding a new job from her abusive husband, Louise becomes wrapped up in a murder investigation; not only because of her uncanny likeness to the victim but because of the relentless, personal coincidences. With everything working against her aside from the engaging new neighbor, Louise must unravel the mysteries of her hometown, her family, and become the brave woman she was told she could not be.
I stood at the end of the walkway leading up to the ugly brown-orange door of my childhood home. I could see through the living room window to the same green and gold couch that pulled out into an uncomfortable bed. Bert's chair sitting in the corner with his ass imprinted into the cushion. The aquarium was bubbling in the back with only two skinny guppies in the 40-gallon tank. The lights were off. The house was silent in the surrounding loudness of the corpse that was half a block away.
