Description
Paul Johnson has the ultimate deadbeat job - head barman in a pub which only has a handful of customers. The only reason he is still in gainful, if tedious employment is that the bar is owned by his best friend, Pete Jackson. Paul is a dreamer, with ambitions of finally being able to improve the lives of his wife and son by finally being able to sell the Television Drama Script he has been working on for longer than he can care to remember. Then one day, one of Paul's few customers, an old-man named Stan Tancredie passes away in front of the horrified barman while he was the playing pub's fruit-machine. After Stan's corpse has been removed from the premises, Paul realises that his customer still had a shot left on his game and almost as an afterthought, takes his shot and wins the Jackpot. Paul them embarks on a run of luck that he could never have dreamed possible, changing his life dramatically in a short space of time.Has his luck really changed and why does he keep being awoken by nightmares in which he is reminded of the need to 'Pay the Piper?' One thing is for certain, life as he knew it will never be the same again.
