First in a series.

Meet Alex Temple, a full-time college student majoring in graphic arts. Alex is spending her summer break following her junior year in college in her small hometown of Bowling, Georgia working in her aunt's bakery.

Alex is also a part-time writer of mysteries. She never intended to become an amateur sleuth, at least not until her cane corso, Bucko, found a couple of very dead bodies. Concerned that having dead people at the once fabulous mansion her new friend Jim is renovating to be a boutique hotel, plus being nosy by nature, Alex decides to solve the mystery.

The problem with that is that human remains aside, there's no evidence of a crime. The sheriff's office isn't that interested, for valid reasons, but still... Sheriff Scott seems amused by Alex's investigation -- at first. By the time he becomes concerned, also for valid reasons, Alex is up to her neck in baked goods and murder.
