Description
In "Accidental Homesteading: A Memoir of Surviving Off-Grid, Fighting Anaphylaxis, and Finding Hope," author Andi Koenig shares a captivating story of resilience, determination, and humor in the face of unexpected challenges. Struck by sudden and severe allergies, Andi and her sister were forced to rethink their entire way of life. The result? An off-grid homestead that would make even the most rugged outdoorsman think twice.
This book offers a unique and insightful look into the world of homesteading, off-grid living, and survivalist lifestyles. Through Andi's personal anecdotes, you'll learn practical tips and tricks for thriving in a challenging and unexpected situation. But it's not just about survival - it's also about resilience, finding humor in the midst of adversity, and coming out stronger on the other side.
In "Accidental Homesteading," you'll discover:
• Random, possibly vital homesteading information like passive solar heating, composting toilets, and more
• Why it's best to avoid developing allergies in the first place (trust us on this one)
• How to charge batteries when you have no electricity
• The benefits of building all heating implements before it gets cold (the real reason may surprise you)
• How to WIN "back in my day" competitions
• How to build a cozy living room yurt (think blanket fort, but better!)
• Why hiking backpacks are as versatile as handbags, in our opinion
Most importantly, you'll learn what a human can accomplish when they need to, and how to thrive in difficult, unexpected situations.
Whether you're a homesteader, off-grid enthusiast, or simply someone looking for an entertaining and informative read, "Accidental Homesteading" is a must-read. Through Andi's humorous and heartwarming storytelling, you'll gain a newfound appreciation for resilience and find inspiration to overcome life's challenges.
Possible trigger warnings -- this book does briefly discuss my struggles with PTSD, and has occasional strong language.
This book is the recipient of the Non-Fiction Awards of Writing Excellence Superior Award by IM Light Publishing. IM Light Publishing Review:
Although a new author, Andi H. Koenig brings a strong talent of story-telling to her work that adds a flare and appeal not often found in non-fiction works. Hers is a talent that allows the readers to forget themselves as they become immersed in the turmoils and triumphs of both her and her sister. And turmoils and triumphs there are. This is a story of such depth of emotions that you can't help but find yourself cheering on these two young women during their struggles. Their struggles are considerable, too, as they strive to find solutions to their health issues, while also trying to find a way to build a house for themselves where modern conveniences are scarce. We live in our homes with all our basic comforts at our fingertips. Flip a switch and you have light. Open a tap and you have hot and cold running water. But what happens when those conveniences aren't convenient? And water and power are just two of the basic needs that these two intrepid women must work out. Their ingenuity, creativity, and inventiveness are amazing as they conquer challenge after challenge just to stay alive. If you've ever thought about living off the grid, this book is a must read. However, if you simply want to read an absorbing, real-life drama of struggle and triumph, then this book is also for you.
