Description
Dr. John Sullivan attempts to travel forward in time but an unanticipated twist jettisons him back to the year 1779. There, in the midst of a bloody Revolutionary War, he befriends Benjamin Franklin and his personal physician to help care for wounded soldiers at Pennsylvania Hospital. While living with Franklin on Elfreth's Alley, Sullivan is introduced to a host of our nation's Founding Fathers including George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. Yet the physician takes umbrage with Major General Benedict Arnold, a war hero and the city's well-respected military governor, regarding his harsh treatment of a servant girl named Sary. Dr. Sullivan quickly realizes that his 21st century ideals on the treatment of women have no place in 1779. His stubbornness in the matter leads to a life-threatening 'affair of honor' with the military leader, despite Franklin's objections. As Sullivan struggles to save his life and travel forward in time, he attempts to sway the opinions of Franklin and his colleagues with regard to a topic that will ultimately plunge the country into Civil War. As the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia nears, Dr. Sullivan realizes that only time will tell if his efforts prove successful. A Twist of Time is the sequel to The Key to the Future and offers the reader a sampling of medicine from colonial America. The storyline touches upon the topics of women's rights and racial equality as they relate to the drafting of our country's Constitution. It explores how a single act from an individual in the past, can dramatically impact our current lives.
