When young Army Specialist Rodney LeClaire was sent to Afghanistan to fight for his country, he thought he knew what war entailed. He soon discovered all the things training did not prepare him for: feces covered toilets, 40mph nutshots, detached faces, pen stealing kids, pants eating goats, or friends getting killed. He battled the heat, the enemy, and ineffective leadership. All of that, paled in comparison to the fight for his own humanity. Stay Calm shows a behind the scenes look at a combat deployment. If you ever wondered what life was like for soldiers, this is the book for you. Written with satirical humor and a bold voice, the story recounts tales of troubles and triumphs. Somewhere between American Sniper and Beetle Bailey, this is a book about an average soldier attempting to cope with extreme conditions.Trigger Warning: Violence, Pornography, Drugs, PTSD. Basically, if you need a trigger warning... this book is probably not for you.

"FIVE STARS. Read this. Read to the end." Lorenzo Del Toro.

Absolutely a thrill to read.
I love the wry humor, the crisp and vibrant imagery, and the human voice in this that had me fully in the pages all the way to the end.
Written in a style that flagrantly breaks the fourth plane and makes you like it, the author takes you along with him to war. Real war. The behind the scenes stuff that no one talks about and Hollywood can't capture. You laugh at the jokes in the mess tent, the pranks that pass time and may end in disaster, the numbing monotony and adrenaline depletion, and the comradery that bonds men under pressure and in the face of danger. And heat. And sand. And people shooting at you.
This was fantastic. I especially loved the proposition that some of the stories were lies. But we don't know which ones. Personally, I believe them all.
And, in the end, there is a serious note to reflect and honor those lost, abroad and home, from enemy fire or suicide. All good men, all losses that need to have their voices heard.
Well done!
I hope he writes many more!" Allyn
