Liam Blake is a millionaire who divides his time between being a professional gambler and operating a private investigation business with his colleague, Jack Stevens a retired detective inspector, formerly in the Merseyside police.
Whilst watching a recording of a race at Exeter, Liam's suspicion is aroused by what he feels is a falsely run, four horse race. His investigative mind leads him to delve further into the recent past where he discovers other small races where the form book has been turned upside down. His experience tells him that the races may have been fixed. With Jack's help he undertakes enquiries into the four owners involved with a view to exposing the ringleader and putting an end to their illegal race fixing.
