The collection presents a detailed window into America in the early 1930s. The collection includes multiple speeches on the U.S. economy including the Farm Bill, Black Thursday's stock market crash, unemployment, the Smoot-Hawley tariff, the gold standard and foreign debts. His Inaugural and State of the Union addresses are also included as are various campaign speeches from 1932.Herbert Hoover served as the 31st President of the United States from 1929-1933, previously serving in the Cabinet of presidents Harding and Coolidge. Holding office during the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the following Great Depression, Hoover opposed direct federal intervention, becoming massively unpopular and later defeated by Franklin Roosevelt.
