Description
Alabama Bake Sale is sometimes bitter, sometime sweet, but once you've had a taste you'll find yourself wanting more. A powerful mix of joy and sorrow, laughter and tears, this story contains the perfect balance of ingredients and is well worth your indulgence.
The year is 1864 and a new slave is about to be introduced into the kitchen of a wealthy household in Montgomery, Alabama. Timid and without experience, Hettie is taken under the wing of the head kitchen slave, Josephine. Together, they work with Ann-Marie to keep everyone fed.
The civil war is in its fourth year and things aren't faring well for the South. The Mistress decides to hold a bake sale to raise morale and funds for the cause. At the same time, Josephine begins to teach Hettie to bake and a relationship starts to form between Ann-Marie and Mr. Joshua, a slave who delivers groceries to the house twice a week. However, all of them stand helpless when it comes to the whim of fate and none could guess what it has in store for them.
Thoughtful and layered with emotion, this story of friendship is a rich slice of literature and you'll savour every morsel.
Like all of the author's work, Alabama Bake Sale is available in paperback and Kindle formats.
