Description
Betsy Walsh is abandoned at the orphanage at fourteen, alone and hopeless for a future she can now only dream of.
At seventeen, she hatches a plan to escape and set out to make a life for herself, determined to find what else life has to offer.
Fortunate to find work fast, she fills in as a would-be nurse where they're needed most: in an understaffed and mess of a makeshift hospital. The first days are tragic and rough, and she's not sure she'll make it, wondering if she'd made a grave error to leave the safety of the nuns and her only friend behind.
But one patient soon catches her eye, and her heart, and he seems to return the interest.
The relationship begins, yet despite doing her best, her life soon takes another turn for the worse, and her trust is shattered, as are all her dreams of the life she thought she might have someday soon. As the months tick by and fate delivers an even more tragic turn of events, she loses all faith in the future.
Yet even after life throws its worst at Betsy, a spark of hope appears in her life, and in timing that can only be from above, her dreams may just turn out real. And this Christmas might be the reason why...
