Description
John and Tess had a love that should have withstood time. Life, and people, got in the way.
Then: Judge Edwards looks me straight in the eyes and says, "John Davis, you've been given a second chance, don't blow it. It may not feel like it right now, but someday you will look back and be thankful for this."
When I turn to look at Tess, who is standing beside her father, my heart begins to shatter. What will I do without her? How will I breathe, let alone function? Even though we aren't really family, she's the closest person I have to a family.
Tess pushes around her father to run to me, throwing herself into my arms. "I'm so sorry," she is crying, "I love you so much. Remember that. I'll be waiting."
"No, Tess," I say. "Don't wait on me.
Now: "John," Tess says. "I didn't know you were in town."
"I just arrived a couple of hours ago. I need food for the house." I say, while staring at how beautiful she is.
"You know my mommy?" asks the little girl who is now standing by her mother. She looks a lot like Tess, but she looks a lot like someone else I know, I just can't place who.
I answer the little doll baby, "Yes, I know your mommy. My name is John."
"John is my Daddy's name. You look kind of like him." The little cutie says.
The threat: Someone is after my family. The family I just found, the family I didn't know I had. The family I will do anything to protect. The Military taught me well. I am the unknown variable. My Mission is to protect those I love.
