Description
The children of The 1929 Series have grown up.
It's 1944 and life is about to change for best friends, Aislin Mulligan and Jean Garrett.
As World War Two rages in the background, Jean Garrett is living on borrowed time and doesn't like to think of the future; his draft notice could come any day.
Aislin has become a young prodigy and works for the local doctor, pursuing her passion for medicine, looking forward to a bright future in medicine. She labors diligently with the Red Cross on blood drives and is proud of her war efforts and planning her future as a nurse. She's begun to think of Jean in a more romantic light and assumes that the feeling is mutual. But when Jean receives a letter from an old friend and learns of his mother's final resting place in Paris, it starts a chain of events that alters everything.
In Jean's attempt to research his mother's grave site, he meets Sophie Chapdelaine, who has recently evacuated from war-torn London. She's secretive about her past, won't talk about the war, and nips from a flask a little too much.
Jean's new attraction catches the eye of Elias Murphy, the town's bad boy, who holds a grudge against Jean and sets out to destroy the one thing that has brought Jean joy since the war started. When he does, Jean needs Aislin's help to bring Sophie back to him. Will she? Or will she fight to keep Jean for herself?
