Description
Based on a Hubble Telescope picture of a binary star system with a nova and white dwarf, "The Shadow Universe" series begins in the future, May 6, 2452, and includes six books: The Ways of Darkness, Running in the Shadows, Dawn of Darkness, Treasures of Darkness, Shadows of the Night, and When Darkness Falls.
These books are for those who enjoy reading a fast-paced action-adventure space opera. Reading all six books is crucial because they do not stand alone, leaving cliffhangers at the end, except for When Darkness Falls, which concludes the story. As it evolves, many characters and plots tie together, and each one is essential to the outcome.
Although set in a science fiction format, the saga is about people and our choices, so if you are not a science fiction fan but enjoy romance, suspense, action, and adventure, you may like this series as others have.
The Shadow Universe I
The Ways of Darkness
The adventure begins on Earth, hundreds of years in the future. During that time, a new country emerged from within the U.S. called The Regime. It gained control of twenty-six states from the Atlantic Ocean to Louisiana to Minnesota through economic means.
Now, Texas is in turmoil, and its citizens have barricaded themselves behind walls to prevent the gangs of the once-rich suburbs from taking over, but due to its failing wealth, Texas business owners petitioned The Regime to help convince the residents to secede from the Union. The Regime sends Jared, a special agent, to work with the Texas business owners and help with the process, but he finds the price might be too high.
Also, Alex Sutton is working on the latest portal technology and is trying to reach the Mars colony. If successful, it would bridge the two planets, replacing the need to send spaceships with supplies and bringing the Regime one step closer to reaching other star systems in the galaxy.
Meanwhile, The Regime police have arrested the State Comptroller, and the Supreme Commander calls Michael, Alex's friend, to examine the results of his invention, the Neuro-Electric Impulse Interpreter, because of a discrepancy. An assassin kills the State Comptroller during his examination, cutting his investigation short. The Regime sends another agent to track down the killer and bring him back for questioning.
Akil, a frozen planet, is circling a dying sun on the other side of the Milky Way. To survive, the Akilians moved their five cities underground. Knowing their sun is about to burn out; they search for a new home. However, hidden in their society are a group of Skeans who have used their supernatural abilities to control the five cities from the shadows because their leader, Gecheana, has foreseen a planet where she will become the supreme ruler.
A mistake by one of her subordinates changed that future, directing Akilian scientists to discover Earth instead. The leaders of the five cities send a scout to gather information, attempting to learn the aliens' language in the hopes of negotiating a deal that would allow them to live on the planet until finding a world of their own.
During his mission, the scout makes a crucial mistake, and The Regime police arrest him. As he escapes from prison through a portal, a guard shoots an electric charge to stop him and inadvertently sends him back in time, setting off a chain of events that gives the Night Lord the advantage.
