Description
This is a Historical Science Fiction / Fantasy story that incorporates archaeology, aliens, and elves.
History is but a shadow of the truth.
In the heart of 1880s Egypt, Louisa Sophia, a daring thief with a shadowed past, crosses paths with Dr. Ben McGehee, an idealistic archaeologist driven by his obsession with lost civilizations. Their goals couldn't be more different, but to solve the mystery of a lost temple said to hold the key to unimaginable power and wealth, fate forces them into an uneasy alliance.
Unknown powers conspire to end their quest, opposing them at every turn. Pursued across scorching deserts, forgotten tombs, and beyond the known world, their journey will take them to the universe's farthest reaches -- where magic is much more than a myth.
Caught in the middle of a war and hunted for their unique knowledge, the desperate Earthlings confront a planet where alien races coexist alongside dwarves, elves, and humans descended from many of Earth's ancient civilizations. With time running out, the interstellar castaways must race to unlock the secrets of a long-vanished alien race or face certain death in the coming Lamentations.
Can they survive long enough to find a way home?
"Absolutely loved this book. Every chapter delivered such great adventures and world building. I enjoyed how different it is from most fantasy books, mixing in the historical fiction. I live for the banter between Ben and Louisa. She's one of my favorite MFC's I've read this year. Definitely going to be on my top 10 books of the year." - GoodReads Review ?????
"Mix Indiana Jones and The Mummy with a dash of Tomb Raider. Bake well and you have this masterpiece." - Amazon Review ?????
Fans of Indiana Jones, Stargate, and Edgar Rice Burroughs will enjoy Ancient Civilizations the most. However, the fast-paced action, unexpected twists, and great cast of characters should appeal to everyone. With this first book in the Lamentations and Magic series, the author has also set the scene for what promises to be a riveting saga. - Manybooks Editorial Review
A note from the Author: There are depictions of violence, sexual innuendo, but no sex, and some foul language. The profanity is used only when it fits the scene and the character. Ancient Civilizations is appropriate for adults and teens aged 13 and up. The book has a multicultural cast with characters from differing religious backgrounds: Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, an altered version of Zoroastrianism, Atheists, and those that worship ancient gods from different historical pantheons. I strive to write characters that act in accordance with their beliefs, values, and backgrounds. Thus, Dr. Ben has an occasional dialog with God in his head, while Louisa only calls on a higher power in dangerous situations, and the teenager Abu verbally and mentally calls on Allah for protection. I added this note to give a fair warning to anyone who might be offended by any of the above.
Lamentations and Magic is a cross genre action adventure combining elements of alternative history, archaeology, sci-fi, slow burn romance, coming of age, epic fantasy, military history, time travel, and found family.
