Description

The Blueberry Daughter is your invitation to sit by the campfire and participate in a profound story of heartbreak, beauty, and radical faith in the journey of life.

In this powerful Native American fable, G. Edward Martin weaves the tale of two sisters -- Miin-Nindaanis (The Blueberry Daughter) and her older sister, Ananish -- both blessed with extraordinary, supernatural abilities but destined to walk very different paths.

While Mina devotes her life to protecting her tribe, healing the sick, and listening to the whispers of the forest and the unseen realms, Ananish uses her gifts for manipulation and self-serving desires, believing the entire world belongs to her by divine right.

As the years pass, Ananish begrudgingly tolerates her younger sister's purity, until Mina's beauty surpasses that of her own, and Ananish becomes enamored with Nimbogi, a gifted young man whose heart cannot be swayed by her powers. When she learns Nimbogi is in love with Mina, jealousy turns to rage, and Ananish hatches a cruel plot to rid herself of Mina.

In this haunting spiritual tale, themes of love, hatred, betrayal, and redemption come together to reveal the true cost of envy and the transformative powers of forgiveness, faith, and divine grace. Mina, Ananish, and Nimbogi's fates intertwine in a story that ultimately transcends time, leading all three on a path to immortality.

From the author: If you love spiritual fiction, mythology, fables, or Native American culture, you will love this story. While this is not based on a real Native American tribe or their culture, this story does use many real Ojibwe words, phrases, and traditions.

Ultimately, this is a fairytale that humanity has been telling for as long as we've told stories. While it is an extremely familiar story, this novella is a fresh set of eyes on an ancient subject, with unique twists and turns, and a profound moral message of faith, grace, service, love, forgiveness. This story is a reminder that truth and beauty cannot be extinguished, but the way of the transgressor is hard.

The Blueberry Daughter resides at the perfect intersection of Native American mythology and folklore, biblical parables, fairytales, metaphysics, poetry, and art. While I recognize that this is a bold statement, this novella is my finest work to date, and I am certain that no matter what age I ultimately reach, it will outlive me. The Blueberry Daughter, and all its many layers, will be a lifelong teacher for whomever reads it, including myself. This story will exist as long as humanity, because it always has.
