Description
Neighbours Frances, Lizzie, Ruby, Eliza and Norma, had survived the horrors and hardships of WWII, their experiences bonding them together in such a way they'd become intrinsically the entwined, strong effective family unit. Their neighbours, who also called these long narrow streets home, the bricks scarred and blackened by fire and blood, were now extensions of this tight, supportive unit. It was as diverse in background as a bunch of conscripted soldiers, but they were intrinsically welded together by need and experience. They became a family.
How had they fared during the long six years of conflict; a war that involved more than thirty countries? WWII was identified as the biggest and deadliest war in history. Years filled with danger, loss, deprivation, but also excitement, empowerment. It had provided a window that invited and offered so many other possibilities and choices that had never before been open to them.
Who was damaged and who had blossomed?
Would they be content to slip back into their past roles, and way of life?
Or do they want more? Better?
Our Heroes Return is a novel that tells of the aftermath of the war and the effect it had on one particular community. We see it through the eyes of five women; each with their own story to tell. The highs and the lows. This is a book that will transport you to a different place and time.
