Description
High school homecoming season always brings back good memories. But it also brings back some bad ones: Like murder.
Last September, seventeen-year-old Kellyn Marks was a high-school football standout at de La Salle High School in Washburne, Illinois. But this September, he's a murder suspect on the run: wanted for the brutal slaying of his ex-girlfriend's mother, Jean Calloway. The police have zeroed in on one suspect: the missing Kellyn Marks.
When Kellyn Marks' mother, Grand Prix dressage rider Alexandra Marks, approaches defense attorney Cheney Manning and asks her to represent her son, Cheney declines to get involved with the case. After all, Cheney is busy with her new career path as a novelist, and she's hesitant to give up her creative-writing time to take on a murder case, particularly one involving a runaway defendant.
Despite Cheney's initial reservations, she ultimately agrees to represent Kellyn, and she convinces the fugitive from justice to turn himself in to the police. But when Kellyn insists on filing a speedy trial demand at his initial court appearance, Cheney is left racing against the clock to prepare for the biggest trial of her career.
In THE HOMECOMING QUEEN'S SON, Cheney Manning teams up with her former client, street-gang member turned college student, Solomon Wilson, to explore alternative potential suspects and to discredit the prosecution's case against Kellyn Marks. But is Cheney defending an innocent man or is Kellyn Marks really responsible for the grisly murder?
