Description
The Gift of Poetry series brings together well-known classic poems along with lesser-known works. It mixes humour with more sobering themes such as death, love and ageing. The variety of these poems captures the full breadth of human experience, from the simple enjoyment of a cup of tea to the final moments of life.
Who's to say what makes one poem a classic, but not another? The choices involved are subjective in nature, even personal. This anthology combines some well-known classics with poems many readers will not be familiar with.
A wide range of themes feature. Love, death and ageing are explored - as you might expect in a collection of classic poems - but there's also room for humour, warfare, family relationships, animals, mythical figures and simple poems capturing a moment.
The poems presented here bring to the reader a new appreciation for the work of those they hadn't been familiar with before. The writers included hail from a variety of backgrounds and time periods, stretching from ancient times up to the twentieth century. While none of these poets are alive, their work remains.
