Description
A New Young Adult Western
Teen newlyweds, Josh and Naomi Braxton, were hopeful, but anxious about the arduous westward journey. The lure of claiming raw lands in Montana through the Homestead Act proved too appealing to pass up on. It offered the brave teens an opportunity to begin their wedded life anew with the chance to build a farm and provide a good life for their future children.
Of course the pair realized it would be a several months of long, rough wagon roads and backbreaking labor just to reach their new frontier home and each day of that journey they would confront new challenges and dangers. The harsh, unforgiving landscape would be filled with treacherous streams to ford and mountains the wagons would struggle to climb, not too mention poisonous snakes that could strike at any moment. And always lurking at the back of their minds was the too real possibility of a deadly Indian attack.
Understanding the risk, they placed their fate, and lives, in the hands of a skilled Wagon Master named Hawkins. Their grizzled leader inspired their confidence with his tales of his past trips. The sheer number of the successful wagon trains he bragged about, made everyone in the small party assured of the journey.
When a group of freed slaves are caught trying to steal food from the wagon train's supplies, instead of punishing them, Josh decides to to grant them leniency. After learning that the group also hopes to build a new life out west, the teens agree to team up. With many miles left to go, the new friends embark westward... into the unknown.
