Description
All Amy wants to do is fly under the radar in yet another new town with yet another new name until her family inevitably takes off again. She has no interest in getting involved with the local drama, making lifelong friends, and romance... pfff! Never gonna happen! She's way more concerned about keeping her skin from burning anyone during a handshake than getting to know any of these people. Especially with all the secrets her family was keeping. But then she slapped the top dog at school and somehow got dragged into his group of friends for it. Friends who were hiding nearly as many secrets as her. And when they started asking questions about hers... well, Amy's trust issues are quite literally genetic, and she learned to lie from the best. Bring it on puppies.
Devon has enough on his plate training to become alpha of his pack, the rogues attacking their territory, and the rumors of some prophetical cult leader alpha behind it all. He doesn't need or want a mate just because his wolf gets excited by her touch. Especially when that mate turns out to be human. Most humans never get over their fear when they find out their loved ones are 'monsters'. Forget about helping him lead a pack. But his wolf is insistent and so are his friends as they do everything they can to 'help' him out. What's he supposed to do when Amy turns out to be nothing like he expected? What the hell was she hiding and why was she so determined not to trust him? And why in the world did she have to be such a good liar?

"How are you handling this so well?" Trevor asked incredulously. "You just nearly died and found out about werewolves. Shouldn't you be freaking out?"
Amy shrugged. "You guys don't seem too scary. I managed just fine against that guy." She gestured at the wolf she took down. "You might want to keep an eye on him. I'm pretty sure I didn't kill him." She gave the wolf a considering look and saw its chest slightly rise and fall. Yeah, he was still alive. "I would have taken care of another one if you hadn't gotten in the way." She glared at Devon.
"Are you seriously pissed at me for not letting you fight a werewolf?" Devon asked incredulously.
"I was trying to help!" She complained. "You were the idiot taking on two at once. If you had slipped up even a little, they would have killed you and started interfering with the other fights. It could have been enough to turn this win into a loss and we could all be dead. Stupid!" She flicked his forehead in frustration.
He could do what he wanted with his own life but there were other people involved here. Namely her! Her family would be heartbroken if she died. The thought pissed her off even more at his unnecessary risk.
The other wolves looked at each other with wide eyes.
Did she seriously just do that? Justin asked Liv and Trevor through the pack link.
Mmhmm. Liv nodded in a daze.
What the fuck? Trevor asked.
