'One day, a young and determined woman approached me with a request to illustrate her book. At first, I hesitated -- I had never worked on books for adults or YA crossover before. But she was persistent, so I read the manuscript. With each page, I sank deeper into the story.
In some mystical way, I realized that so much of this book was about me. Almost every chapter held answers to my own questions. It's a strange and wondrous feeling when an imaginary, middle-aged squirrel speaks words of comfort meant just for me. Or when the protagonist takes a life-changing step, and it somehow gives me the courage to make an equally important decision. I kept reading, and a shiver -- sharp and electric -- ran down my spine. Of course, I couldn't resist creating illustrations!'
