Description
In this second book about my twenty-eight years in professional Social Work, I reached back in my memory vault to put stories to the faces that still come to mind when I sit back and recall those days. Some of them are drop-dead funny, some are sad and some simply infuriated me. I've met people from the privileged to the poor and most their relatives. Book two continues the short, almost true history of that career, funny to tragic. Names have been changed to protect innocent and guilty; and I promise you won't find anything more fascinating than true life in my world. It gets greasy, gritty, gracious and no way glamourous here; I think it has been a life well lived. If you like true to life stories, odd characters funny to tragic, you will love this book.
What have other people said about this series? I am so glad you asked!
"This lady sings my heart. I am so tired of. Swear words and sex and drugs and anti-Christ. Here Mrs. Pelton is bearing her heart shamelessly for all to see. I love. What. You have written and so.will.others who are tired of the (dare I say it?) BS that's being displayed so much nowadays."
"This author's job experiences will tug at your heartstrings. She shows how wonderful most people can be, but also shows the terrible side of family squabbles."
"I enjoyed her stories of how she knew how to work with the people that didn't trust strangers. She was able to reach some that I believe wouldn't have gotten help any other way. It was a real page turner! Her story is inspirational! I will definitely read more of this author. Thank you!"
"You Can't Make This Stuff Up was my first book I have read by J.T. Pelton however it won't be my last. If you want to get a peek into the life of a social worker and the clients they work with this is a book for you. I enjoyed the short chapter format and how Pelton keeps you engaged through out the book, upon finishing I just downloaded another of her titles, give her books a try you won't be disappointed."
"I enjoyed this book. The writing was done well and the subject matter interesting. It is a short easy read, some of it sad, some of it hilarious. It skims the surface of issues in Appalachia, not really going in depth to explain the background of that part of the country. Still it was entertaining to read."
"Entertaining and thought provoking. Personal history offers insight in to being poor and bullied by gov't when poor and when a native American. This person rose to the challenges. I'd love to read a sequel. "
And here is the sequel coming down the track. Many people wrote to me and requested I write another book about my career; some thought it would encourage other social workers; some thought it would help SW students understand what they might be getting into. After thought, I decided we did need a sequel, and that's where this book came into being. You will enjoy it; you know you want to read it, and I hope it entertains, teaches and infuriates you sometimes. Thank you for being my readers and I love your reviews! You need to get your copy now!
